The registration plate LE15 URE has sold above expectations at the DVLA auction in Chesterfield.

Bidders teased up the price of the number plate from a humble lb700 reserve before the hammer eventually came down at lb22,500.

In total the new owner would have paid lb29,240 in total – just shy of lb30,000.

The registration, which reads as the word “Leisure”, would have been ideal for companies in the leisure and tourism industry in particular.

In the end the plate was picked up by the owner of the family run Leisure Parks Ltd, which owns six luxurious holiday parks in North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

DVLA were chipper in Chesterfield after two cherished registrations were sold for over lb250,000.

Two number plates that appear as popular Asian names have fetched lb180,000 and lb76,000 from auction respectively.

KR15 HNA and KR15 HAN proved very popular on the second day of a three day DVLA auction taking place in Chesterfield.

“We knew the number plates would be very popular, but they have exceeded expectations” said Eric Craggs of the CNDA (Cherished Number Dealer Association).

“It is a reflection on the quality of both the registration marks and how unique they are.”

Many keen collectors mad been waiting for the release of these registrations since they were withdrawn from general sale in December last year, along with other 15-registration plates.

Nationla Numbers had received almost 80 enquiries about the KR15 HNA registration, and almost 30 for KR15 HAN, but disappointed customers were told the registration would be going up for auction.

KR15 HAN, which looks like than name “Krishan”, was to first to go up for bid, eventually reaching lb76,000 on the hammer – the buyer would pay lb98,576 in total.

Immediately following was KR15 HNA – “Krishna” is the name of a deity in Hinduism – which sold for an amazing lb180,000, or lb233,360 after fees.

Nationla Numbers customers have the opportunity to own never-before-seen private number plates through the R prefix number plate release in April.

Previously unavailable R prefix number plates will hit the market for the very first time next month and Nationla Numbers is already taking orders.

The extended range will open almost 150,000 news options to customers unable to find themselves a registration or looking to add to their collection.

The extended range will be officially released on Wednesday 15th April 2015.

R Prefix Number Plates

R prefix number plates were originally made available for vehicles registered in August 1997.

Only a limited number of these registrations were originally released.

A prefix-style registration plate includes a year indicating letter (in this case “R”), followed by up to three numbers, a space, and a combination of three letters.

The original range saw the numbers 1-20, and thereafter any multiple of ten (e.g. 30, 300) and any repeated numbers (e.g. 33, 333).

The extended range will allow the numbers 21-31 (excluding 22 and 30, which would have already been issued), 121, 321 and 123.

Combinations can include any letter excluding I, Q and Z. This means there are 12,167 possible combinations available.

Along with the 11 new number combinations this means there will be up to 146,004 new R prefix number plates on the market.

Find Your Perfect Reg

The R prefix number plate release gives customers to chance to own a registration that they may not have been able to find previously.

Currently there are no number plates with “SUE”, “ANN”, “ROB”, or other names available except through private owners.

Customers are now able to get their hands on one for a lot cheaper than other registrations available.

Similarly a lot of popular initials, such as PJW, have also ran out over time as other drivers had bought them already, but customers will now have a second chance to pick one up themselves.

Stock is limited and subject to availability. Some registrations may have already been issued due to special circumstances or have already been auctioned off by DVLA.

How To Buy A New R Registration

To place an order on one of the brand new R prefix number plates you must first call Nationla Numbers.

The Sales Team are available 7 days a week on 01642 363738 and are taking orders now.

Alternatively go to NationalNumbers.co.uk to see the vast list of registrations available.

The number plate FA15 ALS, reading as “Faisal’s”, sold today for an impressive lb35,000.

FA15 ALS is a 15-registration valid for vehicles registered in March 2015, four days from now.

It was the only registration from the FA15AL series that was withheld. Others, including FA15 ALR and FA15 ALB, were sold in December.

‘lb35,000 is a huge price for the registration,’ said Craig Priestly of Nationla Numbers.

‘Considering Nationla Numbers owns other Faisal number plate available at a lot less, the buyer must have really wanted the plate.”

Nationla Numbers currently has FA15 ALB available for lb12,999, FA15 ALC for lb12,999, FA15 ALJ for lb12,999, FA15 ALP for lb12,999 and FA15 ALR for lb12,999.

‘If you have an initial B, C, J, P or R all these plates would be ideal,’ continued Craig.

Nationla Numbers also owns FA12 SEL and FA13 SEL, both available for lb6,999, and FA61 ZAL for sale at lb7,999.

A family were left shocked and in tears after they were violently rammed by police.

Pregnant mother of two, Shiri Rahman, was in the car with her young son who had just been to hospital, as well as her husband and sister.

Bradford Police believed the vehicle belonged to criminals after they used cloned plates for an armed robbery.

‘It all happened in a flash,’ said Mrs Rahman, 34. ‘My husband slowed down to let the car behind us pass. It went in front of us and braked, forcing my husband to stop.

‘Another car pulled up beside us and then a third one came up behind and hit us in the back. I was jerked forward and then back in my seat.

‘We were barricaded in and the car was surrounded by police, there must have been eight or nine of them. I couldn’t see any guns, but the police told us the car that hit us was an armed response vehicle.

‘They took my husband out of the car. We couldn’t understand what was going on. I was shocked. Terrified wasn’t the word for it.

‘I started to have an anxiety attack. I was finding it difficult to breathe and was panicking. My son was crying in the back.

‘You think stuff like this happens in the movies. You don’t expect it to happen in real life – even less be in the middle of it.’

The family had taken five-year old Mohammed Eesaa to Bradford Royal Infirmary after he had developed a fever. They left the hospital in the early hours of the morning and headed home.

Abdur Rahman, 35, was taken to a police vehicle while checks were made by police.

‘The officer explained they had information the vehicle had been involved in an armed robbery and they had to take full precautions to make sure the robbers did not get away, which is why they had to do what they did,’ added Mrs Rahman.

Detective Superintendent Jon Morgan, of Bradford District Police, said: ‘At 11.59pm on Sunday, February 1, police received information about a vehicle which was believed to have been used in an armed robbery outside of West Yorkshire.

‘Following inquiries, a vehicle bearing the suspected number plate was sighted in Ingleby Road, Bradford.

‘In accordance with the information received armed officers were deployed to stop the vehicle safely, which resulted in a minor collision.

‘Ambulance crews were also requested to attend to a pregnant woman who was inside the vehicle.’

Mrs Rahman claimed the paramedics were unsympathetic and declined to treat her family.

‘We are aware of the incident that took place on Ingleby Road in Bradford,’ said Ben Holdaway, of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

‘We are keen to speak to the family directly and would urge them to contact our Patient Relations team on 0345 122 0535 so that we can look into this matter further.’

DVLA’s next Live Auction will be the first to feature number plates from Northern Ireland.

The auction will take place at Nottingham Belfry Hotel over three days starting Wednesday 25th February.

Irish Number Plates

Number plates from Northern Ireland have the letters “I” and/or “Z”.

Irish number plates were previously issued by local DVA offices in Northern Ireland.

As of July 21st, all personalise number plate queries were passed from the main DVA office in Coleraine to DVLA Swansea.

This was part of the continued centralisation effort by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, which included the introduction of various digital platforms and the controversial scrapping of the tax disc.

Before this customers wanting a private number plate from Northern Ireland needed to do what was called a double transfer – this meant the registration would be first registered to an Irish vehicle before it could transferred to their vehicle. The same would happen in reverse for customers in Northern Ireland who wanted a DVLA registration.

The change in the transfer process means that it is a lot easier and cheaper for Northern Ireland drivers to buy and transfer an English registration, and vice versa.

DVLA Auction

The February auction will be the first Live Auction of the year.

Sometimes referred to as “Classic” auctions, Live Auctions sees the DVLA put several rare and valuable plates up for bid for the first time.

Registration marks that have never been issued, such as many of the suffix styles number plates and the withheld regs from the most recent 15 release.

There are 1,600 number plates available in the February auction, including numerous Irish number plates.

Reserves for the plates range from lb250.

25 O is the most expensive plate every sold at auction, selling at lb400,000.

Top Gear’s executive producer feels that the BBC ‘does not trust’ the show any more.

Andy Wilman, 52, believes that despite a string of controversies that the popular BBC show will get another series, however he feels he might be on thin ice with the higher ups.

Speaking to Broadcast magazine, Wilman said: “What the BBC like about Top Gear is when it’s naughty but it’s all under control.

“We walk a tightrope most of the time. Sometimes we’re going to fall off it. And if you do, that’s when the BBC is not a fan. Sometimes, I feel they don’t trust us at heart.

“Ofcom has found us in breach of the Broadcasting Code only twice since 2002. You can’t achieve that kind of record if the show itself isn’t smart about what it’s doing.”

top gear presenters

Controversy

Top Gear has come under fire several times in the last 12 months.

Jeremy Clarkson used the racial slur ‘slope’ on the show’s Burma special, which Wilman said was “not defensible”.

The show’s Argentina special then sparked global issues after the crew was chased out of the country over the number plate H982 FKL – which some said referred to the 1982 Falklands War.

Wilman maintains that it was a coincidence.

Critics of the show have called for the show to be axed and for Clarkson, at one time the highest paid presenter on BBC, to be sacked.

When Will The Next Series of Top Gear Begin?

Despite previous indiscretions, Andy Wilman is hopeful that the hit show will be back for another series.

“[BBC] are willing to recommission Top Gear because the show is working and it’s still a good thing to have in the mix,” added Wilman.

“I could do with a bit less telling off, but there you go.”

Top Gear is in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s most-watched factual TV show.

Fiat 500 drivers are finding that their vehicles are being recalled by the Italian company.

The same issue affected around 4,000 Fiat 500 models in Australia last July.

Affected owners in the UK have started receiving letters requesting affected vehicles be returned.

Only the registered keeper will receive the letter, so if you no longer own the vehicle you must forward to the new owner or make them aware of the Fiat 500 recall.

fiat 500 recalled

The letter reports issues with right hand drive city cars, particularly with the wiring on the dashboard.

Wires could have worn leading the lights on the Fiat 500, which could lead to the instrument panel failing.

Fiat have asked owners to make an appointment with their local Fiat dealer to have their vehicle checked and cleared.

The check should take around 20 minutes and will be free of charge. This time would also include any work correcting issues – such as moving wires away from the steering column.

If you have any issues please contact Fiat’s Customer Service Centre on 00800 3428 0000.

If you are no longer the owner of the vehicle and you receive a letter you must contact the DVLA to rectify this.

More About Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 (Type 312) is a city car built by Italian automaker Fiat since 2007. The car is currently produced in Tychy, Poland, by Fiat Auto Poland S.A. and in Toluca, Mexico, by Chrysler Group LLC. The 500 is a four-seater, three-door hatchback, designed as modern reinterpretation of Dante Giacosa’s 1957 original rear-engined Fiat 500 or “Nuova 500″.

The car was announced on May 5, 2006, and the first images were presented on March 20, 2007. The car was launched officially on July 4, 2007, with 250,000 people in attendance. This was the largest launch party held in the last ten years, a testament to the Nuova 500’s huge popularity. The car was displayed in the squares of 30 cities in Italy for the launch.

The 500 is available with four different trim levels: Naked (not available in the United Kingdom or Italy; opting for this trim level means that the car does not have the seven airbags meaning that the passenger safety rating drops), Pop, Lounge, and Sport. Customers can also choose between 15 interior trims, nine wheel options, 19 decals, and 12 body colours. There are over 500,000 different personalized combinations of the 500 that can be made by adding all kinds of accessories, decals, interior and exterior colours, and trims. The car is also available with the Blue&Me navigation system. The American Sport version has the 1.4 litre Multiair engine, which is manufactured in Michigan.

The car was chosen to herald the marque’s official return to the American market after an absence of 27 years.

The 1 millionth Fiat 500 rolled out of production line on 19 November 2012.

A 78-year-old woman who was told she was “unsafe” to drive has won back her licence.

Elderly driver, Georgina Frances Hitchen, had her licence revoked after a 2012 accident.

DVLA listed the reason for disqualification as a “age-related cognitive impairment”, but a High Court judge disagreed and overturned the decision.

Ms Justice Simler told the court that there was no medical evidence to back DVLA’s decision.

elderly drivers older dvla

“A relevant disability cannot be inferred from a driving performance alone,” said Ms Justice Simler.

“There had to be clear evidence that ‘a relevant physical or mental disability’ existed but in Ms Hitchen’s case there was none.

“In fact there was clear evidence that she did not suffer from cognitive impairment.

“This was a case where bad driving could have been caused by something else, such as poor driving habits, lack of skill, anxiety or nervousness.”

Elderly Drivers Fight for Rights

Appearing before magistrates, Ms Hitchen said that the DVLA’s decision was worrying to other elderly drivers.

The 78-year-old argued that elderly drivers were being victimised purely on their age alone.

Without evidence of medical issues elderly drivers could have their licences revoked, where in similar cases younger drivers would not.

A recent surge in older drivers in the UK has lead to the suggestion that driving tests would need to be taken.

A report from the Parliamentary Advisory Committee for Transport Safety – Pacts – said:

“It is vital that the course providers are seen as a non-threatening organisation.

“It is important that the tone of any such intervention is positive and supportive, avoiding undermining confidence or giving a negative image of growing older.”

Facts About Elderly Drivers

  • It is estimated that by 2030, 90% of men over 70 will still be driving.
  • Elderly Drivers over 80 are two and a half times as likely to be killed in a collision as drivers in their forties.
  • Teenage drivers are less safe than elderly drivers.
  • Very few elderly drivers are involved in drink driving incidents.

There is a “growing market” of customers from the Middle East renting supercars in London.

Arab visitors who come to London for “Supercar Season” have started hiring supercars from local businesses instead of flying in their own.

Signature Car Hire owns the UK’s largest fleet of luxury vehicles. The London company’s Chief Executive and Founder, Dee Bhatia, says his client list includes royals from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

“They are discerning clients who know exactly what they want. We have been known to buy a car specifically because a VIP client requested it,” Bhatia said.

“Supercar Season” refers to the Summer months when Tourists from the Arabian Gulf flood London, usually with their supercars. Locals from Knightsbridge and Mayfair have complained about the noisy cars, as well as potentially dangerous driving.

Some companies would even buy vehicles for their fleet if a client had asked for it specifically.

supercars for rent in london

Another rental company, Supercar Experiences, is also receiving an influx of Asian customers around this time a year. For example, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700, one of the most expensive supercars in the world, is available for lb1,995 per day,

“We’ve had the princes, the sheikhs, the billionaires,” said Nik Hardwick, Managing Director of Supercar Experiences. “They’ve all got cars back home. But a lot of people decide to hire rather than bringing their own cars over.”

More and more people are flying their supercars into the country also, paying up to Dh70,000 to do so.

Manchester-based Dan Car Logistics handled 35-40 cars being flown in from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.

Arab countries, such as Qatar which will hold 2018’s FIFA World Cup, is known to reach up to 46 degrees in the summer months. It is believed that the yearly pilgrimage to London could be in an attempt to get away from the heat.
